BOS Plaza Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Prairie Capital Convention Center and the Bank of Springfield announce the ribbon cutting ceremony for the BOS Plaza. The event will be held from 5:00pm- 9:00pm on Friday, June 13th. Admission is free and there will be live music by Dave Littrell.
The Center will also be unveiling “Before I Die” boards, a living art installation that is interactive with the community. Before I Die is an art movement started by artist Candy Chang after she lost a loved one.
“It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget what really matters to you. [Chang] wanted a daily reminder and wanted to know what was important to the people around her. So after receiving permission, she painted the side of an abandoned house in her neighborhood in New Orleans with chalkboard paint and stenciled it with a grid of the sentence, “Before I die I want to _______.” Anyone walking by could pick up a piece of chalk, reflect on their lives, and share their personal aspirations in public space.
It was all an experiment and she didn’t know what to expect. By the next day, the wall was full of responses and it kept growing.”
“One of the joys of my job at The Center is being able to be part of this community in so many different ways; be it through our public events, our annual conventions and trade shows, or the economic impact we provide for the city, “ says General Manager, Brian Oaks. “Many children come here for their first circus and then in the blink of an eye are walking across our stage as they graduate high school. Being even a small part of that is an honor,” he continues, “When I saw the ‘Before I Die’ movement, I knew we had to be a part of that. It is a unique opportunity for us to come together as a community and share our dreams, hopes, and aspirations for the future. The BOS Plaza and the recent renovations mark a new era in the history of The Center and we have big dreams to go along with it. We want to invite Springfield to stop by and pick up a piece of chalk.”

The BOS Plaza is The Center’s new outdoor event facility, located between the Plaza Parking Garage and The Center’s lobby on the west end of the building. Bank of Springfield currently holds exclusive sponsorship rights to the newly renovated plaza per an agreement with Springfield Metropolitan and Auditorium Authority Board signed in March of 2014.
There are two concerts currently slated for the BOS Plaza. Brett Eldredge will perform there on June 27 and the Under the Sun Tour Featuring Uncle Kracker, Smashmouth, Blues Traveler and Sugar Ray on June 29.

Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure

May 13, 2014 –– Feld Entertainment, Inc., producers of Disney On Ice and Disney Live!, is bringing top performing cable TV series for preschoolers to the stage in Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure. Featuring characters from the smash hits Sofia the First and Jake and the Never Land Pirates, the 2014-2015 tour of this production launches a 100-city national tour in July 2014. Tickets for the Springfield, IL performances at Prairie Capital Convention Center, November 16th, 2014 go on sale Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

In this original storyline, Mickey and Minnie lead the audience on an exciting adventure that will have families rooting for their favorite pirate, Jake, and Disney's first little girl princess, Sofia. Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure begins with a special interactive pre-show featuring the loveable six-year-old doctor to toys and stuffed animals, Doc McStuffins. Children and their parents will sing the “I Feel Better” song, along with Doc as she provides tender love and care.
Audiences will then embark on a journey to the magical world of Enchancia, where Sofia, her step-siblings Amber and James, and the entire kingdom are preparing for the annual friendship festival. Sofia has the honor of delivering the perfect gift to her royal subjects at the celebration, and the one-and-only Cinderella visits the castle to help Sofia in her mission to find the right present.
The excitement continues when families cast away to Never Land where Jake and his Yo Ho pirate friends, Izzy and Cubby, are in a race against time to locate a mysterious treasure-filled volcano. Danger, thrills and adventure lurk around every turn when our swashbuckling friends battle Captain Hook for the ultimate prize. Peter Pan makes a special appearance, aiding the team in their heroic quest, and with the help of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust, Jake and his crew fly above the stage in their journey.

Springfield, Illinois (March 17, 2014)- Today the Springfield Metropolitan Exhibition and Auditorium Authority (S.M.E.A.A.) Board approved a contract that allows for the Bank of Springfield to hold exclusive sponsorship rights for the Prairie Capital Convention Center’s (PCCC) newly renovated plaza.
The BoS Plaza is the area located between the PCCC’s parking garage and their lobby. As part of their recent $16 million renovation, the PCCC had the previously unutilized space hard-scaped with the idea that it could be used as an outdoor event venue. “This area was fine when the building was built over thirty years ago but had since become overgrown and underused,” said General Manager, Brian Oaks. He continued, “On rainy days it was a mud pit, and on sunny days a dust bowl. I would look out my office window and think, ‘there has got to be something better for this space.’ And then it came to me; a way to use this space and fulfill a need for the City of Springfield: an outdoor venue in the heart of downtown.”
The BoS Plaza will be home to a new summer concert series as well as various other community events.
“First off, I just want to thank Bank of Springfield for agreeing to partner with us on this new venture,” said Shawn Mayernick, the Director of Business Partnerships at the PCCC, “they are such a pillar of our community and we are very excited they see the same potential we saw in this new space. Having this one of a kind outdoor area gives us the opportunity to add events that will help us increase our economic impact. On average we drive $72 million throughout the year which sustains roughly 400 jobs in the area. ”
Along with signage the Bank of Springfield will also receive a VIP Suite to be located in the adjacent parking garage that is owned and operated by the Prairie Capital Convention Center. The PCCC will create a unique space in the garage for Bank of Springfield and their guests to view the concerts they plan to hold on the BoS Plaza.
Sponsorship of the plaza is the first of many initiatives to find alternate sources of income for the PCCC. “Sponsorships and naming rights are an important part of the future growth of the PCCC. We have worked really hard over the past 7 years to make this building and all of it assets something worthy of putting your name on. We have a building and a brand we are really proud of and it is great to see that other members of the community agree. The BoS Plaza is a huge accomplishment and hopefully the first of many more exciting community partnerships,” adds Oaks.
